Live streaming has become very popular lately, even more, popular than YouTube if you ask me. The most famous live streaming platform when it comes to gaming and gaming talk shows is Twitch.tv. It has been around for some time now and it has thousands of viewers visiting daily. Some people just prefer watching somebody else play a game, others maybe cannot afford the game themselves, and so they want to see someone else completing it. Regardless of what’s the reason, people just love watching Twitch streamers.

If you are reading this article you probably already know about Twitch.tv superstars like Ninja or Shroud and the amount of fame and gaming skill they have. You are also probably wondering how you can start your own career on Twitch. Well, we have some tips for you, so let’s begin.

Choosing your path

If you want to stream on Twitch, you need to know your qualities and what you want to do. If you are certain in your gaming skills and you think they are worth showing off, you can stream competitive games and let people learn from you while also watching your quality plays. Streamers that have educational streams (when it comes to video game knowledge) are highly appreciated and usually have one of the best communities.

If you’re just a casual gamer and you don’t like competition, you can also succeed on twitch by playing single-player story-driven games. Many streamers got successful and built a community by choosing this way. A good example is Lirik. He’s a very good competitive gamer as well, but most of the times you will find him playing a chill, story-based game and enjoying a nice chat with his viewers. There is a guide to streaming on twitch if you don’t know how to set up your stream.

Maybe you’re not a gamer but you still want to stream and build a community. Well, that’s not a problem at all. Recently, Twitch.tv introduced a section called “Just Chatting” where streamers can perform their daily activities while chatting with their viewers. This includes working out, painting, dancing, and many different things.

Following the tide

One of the most important factors when it comes to streaming and getting popular on Twitch is choosing the right game. Some people love watching a play-through of an older game, but, playing new and uprising games like Fortnite and Apex Legends will most likely give you tons of viewers.  Like I mentioned earlier, they don’t always have to be multiplayer games, new triple-A titles such as Resident Evil will work as well. People just love to watch new releases.

It’s not easy and will take some time

You can’t expect to start live streaming on twitch and blow up overnight with thousands of subscribers and viewers. Twitch.tv values quality and it will take some time before even getting your subscribe button. I personally know tons of streamers that took them years and years before finally blowing up and getting the recognition they needed. Patience is the key and hard work will always pay off sooner or later.
